Gluten Free-Pizza-Pizzadilla

Craving pizza and being gluten free while trying to eat better is a toughy, but last week  I was dying (cue dramatics)  for a pizza. I saw these on Pinterest and I figured, “Why not? This actually doesn’t look too hard.” They weren’t and they were GOOD!

BANANA PANCAKES

banana pancakes

(love me through my camera phone photos)

In my decision to train for a half marathon, I’m looking for healthy yet affordable recipes to try at home. Of course I head over to Pinterest  and pin away.

I came across this idea of 2 ingredient easy banana pancakes. The ingredients? Banana and 2 eggs.

Awesome! Low calories, very inexpensive and healthy. I can deal with that. But as I followed the directions and ate, I was slightly…disappointed?

MAPS TO THE STARS

Maps to the Stars

David Cronenberg’s new film “Maps to the Stars” hasn’t even filmed yet (I hear it’s early July) and I’m already excited about it. Anything dealing with Hollywood stars and insane craziness makes me excited (in film form. Seeing the downfall of certain stars does not make me happy). Plus, Cronenberg is this weird creative genius that makes films a lot of Hollywood are scared to touch nowadays (probably because it won’t make money like franchises. I’m looking at you Fast and the Furious 656).

Anyway, with an ensemble cast of John Cusack (hello!), Julianne Moore and Rob Pattinson, I’m sure this film is going to be all sorts of crazy amazing.

Here’s a poster to show my excitement. It’s not the complete cast they’re still adding on to the list (I believe). -C

JUST DO IT

Clarissa Nicole_random

(please excuse my drawing. it was a quick test on wacom tablet)

It’s 2:08 AM as I write this post, contemplating whether or I should post it a personal post or keep it private. I don’t want this blog to seem like a “Dear Diary, here are my troubles,” but I also want to be as authentic as possible (to the few people that love me enough to read this, thank you).

So I’m here, writing this post still thinking “should I or shouldn’t I?” and I realize that’s my main problem in life.

I’ve always wanted to different and even daring things but then I go, “Um, maybe later.” We’ve all done it. Some of us say it’s not worth it and move on, others just do it and then there’s some of us, me, who dwell and analyze everything to the point that the opportunity passes and then you’re left with the shoulda/coulda/wouldas.

Even tonight I was talking to a friend about posting something I was working on and I’m weighing out all the options. It’s silly, but then it’s not. See?

This has been my life; I want to do something but anxiety stops me from doing it. The fact that I wanted to freelance was a huge step and even some days I go back and forth about whether or not I should have just done nursing (says the person who is h o r r i b l e at math and science, but I digress).

I can change this. I can talk myself out of my over analyzing and just do it–cheesy but Nike has a point.

I have a lot I want to do, a lot I want to achieve,  and a lot I want to share with people. If you happen to stumble across this post and are in question about if you should do this or that, do it. Take the chance. Don’t be like me and let anxiety take over. You’re better than that.

MUSIC MONDAY: JANELLE MONAE FT ERYKAH BADU

Queen

Janelle Monae collaborated with Erykah Badu for Q.U.E.E.N and I’m obsessed with every aspect of this. Her style, the video, the song itself. Cannot wait for her new album, The Electric Lady.

Who Are You, Polly Maggoo1

PS. Catch the homage to the French art film, ‘Who Are You, Polly Maggoo?’, which I need to watch.

What do you think of the song/video?- Clarissa

MUSIC MONDAY: MACKLEMORE AND RYAN LEWIS

I am a fan, a FAN of Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. Yes, I quote Thrift store 75 percent of the day because it really connects with me (being a starving artist doesn’t allow you to name brand clothes anyway) but I really like their sound.

Can’t Hold Us is my jam, has helped me proceed through the day and help me push through the “blahs” I have going on in my life and push through those minutes I try to run when I feel like, “eff this I don’t want to run anymore.”

Get into this energetic performance. Love it.

OH WORLD

painting credit

This week has been crazy, to say the least. I think we can all deem this to be the worst week ever in history.

First the Boston marathon bombing and I can’t wrap my mind around why anyone would do this. If you’re like me, you’re glued to the TV wondering  what is going on in this world. I can’t imagine, I simply can’t.

Iraq is dealing with killings during their election season as people exercise try to exercise their right to vote and Venezuela  is dealing with a skewed election as the government is throwing out votes and hurting those who voted against the opposition.

Wednesday, the town of West had a huge plant explosion that destroyed a large part of the town. If you’re in Texas and have been up and down 35 from Dallas to Austin or San Antonio, you’ve seen this town and stopped there for a kolache or two (it’s known as the Kolache Capitol of Texas).

Last night a shooting at MIT where a patrol officer was killed by one of two suspects of the Boston marathon bombing; a town usually thriving is now on lockdown and the world watching all of this as it unfolds.

Saturday update: They caught the second suspect. Boston officials are the best and I hope they get a chance to relax, breathe, get drunk, something. Also, thank you to the person who saw the something off on the tarp and the runner who ID-ed the suspect.

My faith teaches me that things happen for a reason, but my faith also says it’s OK to question why? I don’t understand why all of this is happening, why all of this happens in one week. It’s scary and sad and my thoughts and prayers are with everyone.

PHOTO FRIDAY // NEW YORK SUBWAYS

I wanted to do a black and white photo of the subways in New York during a time most people shouldn’t have been on the subways (sorry mom). It was eerily quiet compared to the hustle and bustle that was a few hours before. In a way thought, it was oddly beautiful. For the record, I wouldn’t do that again even though I was there with two other friends waiting for the reroute to get back to the city and to our hotels. It was late, way late, (or early, too early–whatever 3:30 AM is to you) and I won’t lie–there were lots of prayers said in my head to keep us safe.

CNICOLE PINS 02 // WHEN PROJECTS DON’T WORK OUT

In the process of making my business cards I wanted to do something a little different to make them stand out, so I took to Pinterest (obviously) to gather some ideas.

I came across this idea and thought, “cool!” so I researched how to do it.

Luckily, Austin blogger Camille Styles had a simple DIY tutorial so I followed it.

But the end result didn’t turn out that great. By “not that great” I mean…

SONY DSC

From reading other people’s comments, a problem could be the rock not being heavy enough. At least it wasn’t ALL of my cards–that would have been a bummer.

CNICOLE PINS 01

I recently decided to give going vegetarian another try because I’m partially nuts after my physical I feared the normal numbers for cholesterol were coming too close to high (they’re not, but it’s some points away and I want to be careful)  so I gave up the few meats I do it (chicken and turkey) and double up on vegetables.

Add this to being gluten free and my “diet” (hate that word) can be a lot more tricky than it should be.

Thank God for Pinterest. I’ve found meals I am most certainly going to try in the near future.

Gouda Mushroom Grilled Cheese

Smoky Sweet Potato Burger

If you’re gluten free like me, easily replace the whole wheat buns/bread with gluten free bread. I personally love Udi’s Gluten Free Multigran Bread. It’s fantastic and doesn’t taste gluten free while being gluten free.

Sweet Potato Soup w/Avocado

Greek Yogurt Souffle

Flourless Zucchini Brownies

Have you tried any of these recipes? What’s your favorite vegetarian dish?

CNICOLE COLOR 01 // Turquoise from Fab.com

If you can’t tell, turquoise is my favorite color so naturally, my first (official) CNICOLE COLOR post is turquoise.

Never being a pink girl, I went to fab.com to gather some turquoise favorites that you’re unlikely to find at any store.

OSCAR ROUND-UP!

I had to, you know I had to.

To not go into detail with my opinion about the telecast (ain’t nobody got time for that), I’ll give you my favorite looks of the night.

1. Kerry Washington in Miu Miu.

I adore her. She’s my bff in my head, the Hollywood side to me…just…glorious. The color with her skin tone, the hair, the subtle, not over the top bedazzle works. Not her first go around in Miu Miu and I hope it’s not the last. It’s enough daring for her without it being too much.

2. Naomi Watts in Armani Prive.

Mom said she looked like a can of Sprite Zero, but I fell in love with the gunmetal one shoulder,. Often times this can go wrong, but it worked for her. I love her hair and make-up being simple to keep the dress as the wow factor.

3. Charlize Theron in Dior

Charlize for me has done wrong fewer times than I walked the red carpet (read: none). Tonight was no exception. And can we talk about her hair? Yes. It makes her face look even more stunning and for someone still trying to get used to her pixie (I’ve had mine since December), I have this new confidence to work mine. Not that we look alike, but her confidence rubbed off on me.

4. Jessica Chastain in Armani Prive

Neutrals were part of the pallet for the red carpet and Jessica made it work. She kept her hair simple, added a bold lip and looked elegant on the carpet. I think it’s my favorite dress of hers all award season.

5. Halle Berry in Versace

Madam! I really don’t know how old Halle is and let’s be honest, it doesn’t matter. She’s beautiful, end of.

That’s my Oscar wrap-up. Did I miss anyone? Who were your favorites?

MUSIC MONDAY// THE XX

Trying to start my Music Mondays because as much as I love design and photography, music is another huge love of mine and I enjoy sharing tunes. That being said, let’s kick it off with The XX, shall we?

the xx-01

The first time I heard them was in 2010 when I stumbled across their cover of Aaliyah’s Hot Like Fire. I loved how they made it their own and didn’t try to make it like her version plus their British, so I was really excited about them.

After purchasing xx I was dying for a new album, so of course when Coexist was released to bless our ears with amazingness, I did everything but beam into the clouds of heaven to thank Jesus personally. Exaggerated only slightly, but my day was made.

Angels is one of those songs that hits me to my core. It’s a quiet medley mixed with softly sung yet powerful lyrics that has me repeating it for 2 hours minimum.

Cannot wait to see them in Dallas (a sold out show by the way)! What do you think about them?
